File 5: Sung Jin Park (Seoul, South Korea, 1970)
Sung jin Park earned his BFA in Painting and Photography at Pratt Institute. Since 2001, he has been working on a series of portraits called ‘Kid Nostalgia’, which is a portrait of teenagers in Seoul, his Hometown. He has been a part of A+C festival 05 and was also awarded 1st place at the Photographic Center Northwest competition, juried by Charlotte Cotton. Sung Jin is currently based in New York City and Seoul.
The black and white nature of his photographs allows viewers to fully immerse themselves within the expressiveness of the subjects’ facial expressions. The intimate, yet innocent qualities of his subjects, who are often students in middle school and high school, as shown by images from ‘KID NOSTALGIA’, amplify the various experiments and modes of self expressions shown. Sung Jin Park’s careful attentiveness towards body language, gaze, and emotions captivates the heart of viewers.

박성진 (서울, 대한민국, 1970)
박성진 작가는 서울에서 출생하여 뉴욕 Pratt Institute에서 회화와 사진학과를 전공하였다. 2001년부터 그는 그의 고향인 서울에서 십대들의 초상화인 일명 'KID NOSTALGIA’ 라는 시리즈 작품 활동을 해오고 있다. 그는 A+C 페스티벌05에 참가하기도 했고, Charlotte Cotton이 평가단으로 진행된 Photographic Center Northwest Competition에서 1등을 수상하는 영예를 얻기도했다. 박성진 작가는 뉴욕과 서울을 오가면서 작품활동을 하고 있다.
그의 작품은 흑백필름의 명암의 특색있는 조화를 통해 보는 사람들로 인하여 그 실물의 얼굴 표정들속에 표현들에 완전히 빠져들게 한다. ‘KID NOSTALGIA’에서 볼수 있듯이, 작가는 사람들의 표정과 명암을 통해 중.고등학교 학생들의 실물속에 담겨진 순수함을 담아내고 있다. 그의 작품에는 보는 이들의 마음을 향하여 아주 조심스럽게 몸으로 언어를 전달하고, 응시하고, 감정들에 몰입하게 하는 매력이 있다.
